STD Symptoms In Women

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Pathogens are passed from one person to another through a number of ways. One such way these pathogens are passed is by sexual contact. For obvious reasons, diseases that are passed on in such a contact are summarily called sexually transmitted diseases. These commonly affect those that are sexually active. In fact, there are about 200 to 400 millions of people around the world that are affected with such diseases every year.

Some STD symptoms in women for AIDS, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are the following:

Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)

This is one of the diseases that have caused widespread panic in people – a syndrome resulting from what is called Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV. The virus makes one’s immune system weak, and because of the weakening of the immune system, the one infected by HIV is thus rendered helpless against bacteria and other common disease-carriers.

Gonorrhea

This infection is caused by the bacterium called as Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This type of infection grows on the throat, eyes and rectum. The STD symptoms in women for this disease are burning feeling while urinating, yellowish vaginal discharge, redness and swelling of the genitals. If this disease is not cured, it may result to serious pelvic infection with inflammation of the fallopian tubes and ovaries.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is similar to gonorrhea in terms of its symptoms and contagious nature. There are approximately 4 million women suffering from this disease. The bacterium causing Chlamydia can be located in the cervix and urethra, as well as in the throat and rectum. Urinary tract infection and a sudden pain that can be felt while urinating or an increased frequency in urination are symptoms of this disease. This disease is also associated with premature births. In infants, the mother’s affected birth canal can cause this disease and may lead to serious eye damage or pneumonia.

To end, STD symptoms in women, as well as men, can be avoided by practicing safe sex.
